Job Title: HRIS Payroll Specialist (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Location: Remote hybrid. Preference given to candidates located near an ATS Traffic location.
Status: Full time, 15 Month Contract (April 2025 – July 2026)
Wage: $75,000 - $80,000 depending on experience.

About the Position
The HRIS/Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring the integrity, accuracy of the HRIS system (UKG Pro, UKG Ready and Foundations) in compliance with various governing bodies, and for the payroll function. The incumbent coordinates the implementation, and maintenance of the HR Information System and constantly monitors system performance to identify processes that need improvement. The incumbent performs system testing, implementation of updates, and controls systems security and access. The HRIS/Payroll Specialist will also support the Payroll and Benefits Lead for the processing of payroll for all staff in Canada and the United States.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the continuous evaluation and evolution of HR Systems that include payroll systems, etc.
- Coordinating with Information Technology and the user community to identify areas of improvement, recommend changes, and implement functional solutions for existing systems.
- Ensuring that applications integrate into existing and planned infrastructure.
- Effectively working with the team to prioritize work and establish a strong partnership with IT to ensure clear governance in how value is delivered to the end users with the goal of providing an amazing employee experience.
- Thinking about quality of business processes as well as data quality and integrity by ensuring a regular audit cadence in coordination with the HR team.
- Actively identifying and resolving issues or opportunities for enhanced user experience and other HRIS integrations.
- Developing, documenting, and maintaining all current and new HRIS business process workflows for efficiency and compliance.
- Partnering with cross-functional team members and IT team members on HRIS-related issues/enhancements/queries.
- Collaborating with the HR Operations team to provide support for HR technology matters.
- Maintaining and administering ad hoc report writing tools for end users; training and assisting users of those ad hoc report writing tools.
- Communicating with project teams, clients, and vendors.
- Listening to customer needs and explaining complex technical issues and solutions in a plain and common descriptive manner.
- Ensures the accurate and timely preparation of bi-weekly and weekly payroll.
- Other ad hoc duties as required.
Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Human Resources or Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field or equivalent, combined experience.
- 3+ years full cycle payroll processing experience. Comprehensive understanding and working knowledge of end-to-end payroll processing.
- 3+ years of experience in HRIS or HR technology role.
- Experience managing HRIS changes/implementations to support M&A.;
- PCP Certification preferred.
- Strongly prefer candidates with previous UKG experience, specifically Pro and Ready.
- Experience with other HRIS/HCM systems is an asset.
- Experience working with the Canada and US payroll experience, preferred.
- Strong understanding of HR processes and data.
- Strong exposure and knowledge of various types of HR information systems across the HR function: HCM, LMS, and other HR applications.
- Out-of-the-box thinker and a hands-on expert continuously seeking ways to improve and optimize use of HRIS platforms; experience with UKG implementations preferred.
- Detail and process-oriented leader, able to partner with non-technical customers and partners to understand user needs and translate needs into technical requirements.
- Able to effectively partner with IT and non-technical customers to understand user needs and translate needs into technical process and configuration requirements.
- Knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of project management.
